My name is Alexa Garcia, and I started using Open Street Mapping (OSM) in 2019. My teacher, Celeste Reynolds, introduced OSM to me and my class. Without her I would never have gotten the chance to help millions of people throughout the world.
OSM was one of my favorite things to do when I had free time, because it was fun, simple, and made a worldwide impact. I would always think of how difficult it would be to live somewhere where nothing was mapped out. I couldn’t imagine trying to get to the hospital in a stressful time with no directions. Realizing that people lived this way helped motivate me to map. I would put on a show or movie on the TV, open OSM on my computer, sit, and map for hours. All in all, OSM was a fun and easy activity that helped people worldwide, and made me feel good because I was playing a role in making a difference.
