GIS is Everywhere - Even at Home!

Writer: ags083ags083

"Just recently we held our first TeenMaptivists meeting at Coronado High School! During the meeting we discussed what the club is about and how we can use computer mapping and geospatial data to impact the community and the world. It was really eye-opening to get to learn about the importance of GIS and how I can use it to help my local community!

Even when I got home, I started talking to my parents about GIS and computer mapping and found out that my dad's job as a firefighter requires a lot of GIS software to map routes for calls, locate fire hydrants, and a lot of other things that help save lives. I thought it was really cool to see how the same things I was learning about in school could be used in everyday life by people like my dad who are first responders!"
