GETTING STARTED

JOIN THE NETWORK

BUILD YOUR MAPPERS

ATTEND A TEENMAPTIVST MAPATHON

HOST A LOCAL MAPATHON

STEP 1: APPLY TO JOIN TEENMAPTIVISTS

Join TeenMaptivists one of two ways: Start a new TeenMaptivists Chapter at your school, or, if you already have a club, student organization, or society, you can simply affiliate your existing student group. We accept one chapter application per high school. Submit your information through the chapter form by clicking the green button below. Our executive committee will review your information and contact you regarding your submission for acceptance and participation in the network.

STEP 2: JOIN A TEENMAPTIVIST MAPATHON

Now that you have officially joined the network, it's time to participate in a TeenMaptivist Mapathon. Each month, chapters participate in an organized mapathon where the executive committee selects a theme that connects to humanitarian mapping, provides a guest speaker video, and connects you to a mapping task. These monthly asynchronous mapathons, which are featured on the Modules page, are implemented across our network during the second week of each month. Chapters schedule the mapathon during their school-specified meeting time.

STEP 3: HOST A LOCAL MAPATHON

Now that you have attended your first mapathon, it's up to your student elected officials to organize a local mapathon. Chapters across the country host their local mapathon during the last week of the month. We suggest students pick a project or mapping activity that connects to that month's theme. You may choose to have a traditional mapathon where you map a project from a Tasking Manager, or you can explore other activities with your faculty advisory such as a field trip, a specialized training workshop, a field mapping excursion, or anything else you'd like! If you have a specific idea and would like additional guidance from our executive committee or assistance in preparing a training workshop, please reach out to us at info@teenmaptivists.org
